Cellist and Music Educator
Rylie's performances have taken her to beaches of the Caribbean, Buenos Aires, Tokyo, all across Europe, and throughout the United States. Sold out arena rock shows, working with ballet and tango dancers, performing underground in caves, and private dinners on yachts are recent notable memories. She has shared the stage with Yo Yo Ma, the Dallas String Quartet, Guster, Ben Folds, The Eagles, Third Eye Blind, and Grammy-winning singer Sangeeta Kaur.
Dr. Rylie Harrod is incredibly versatile, effortlessly switching from her trained classical upbringing to nearly any genre of music. Often looking for a laugh, she likes creating cello content for social media. Her viral videos have been featured on TwoSet Violin, Classic FM, The Violin Channel, and CBS’s ‘The Greatest At Home Videos’. She records regularly as a session musician and is a string lead for entertainment powerhouse Élan Artists. Recent performance collaborations have been with Austin Camerata, Ventana Ballet, and the Serenata Concert Series performing alongside Argentinian Bandoneon player, Norberto Vogel. She has performed as an orchestral musician for many years, holding the position of Principal Cellist at the Waco Symphony Orchestra, along with substitute roles in the Austin Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, Tucson Symphony, and Phoenix Symphony. She has worked under conductors such as Fabio Luisi, Krzysztof Urbański, Semyon Bychkov, Michael Stern, and Mitsuko Uchida, and spent summers at the Pacific Music Festival in Japan and as a member of the National Repertory Orchestra.
When not freelancing, Rylie is running a busy private teaching studio and is also a teacher with Suzuki Strings of Austin. Current students of Rylie’s have soloed at Carnegie Hall, have received first chair in Region and placed in the Texas All-State Orchestra, and have continued to both minor and major in Cello Performance and Music Education degrees across the country. Rylie was the Director of the Young Artist and the Emerging Artist Divisions for the Texas Strings Festival for five summers.
Trained to the highest level, Rylie holds performance degrees from the Royal Academy of Music in London, Arizona State University, and The University of Texas. In her free time, Rylie greatly enjoys being a ceramic artist, spending time near the ocean, drinking lattes, and nurturing her plants.
